The old <strong>royal burgh<\/strong> is easily <strong>reachable by public transport<\/strong> so that it\u2019s a very <strong>popular excursion<\/strong> from Dundee.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, it is <strong>a valid option for all those who want to visit the city<\/strong> but staying in a hotel or b&amp;b far from the chaos. In my case I chose the <a href=\"http:\/\/woodlandsdundee.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Best Western Woodlands Hotel<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, situated only few metres from the bus stop to\/from Dundee and <strong>a perfect base to explore Angus<\/strong> and the Scottish east coast.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel and the <strong>free car park<\/strong> are surrounded by wonderful wooded gardens and it\u2019s near the <strong>Broughty Ferry beach<\/strong>. Then, if you prefer spending some times inside, there you can find amenities such as an equipped gym, a sauna, a jacuzzi, a heated indoor pool together with a lounge bar and restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080;\">What to do and see in Broughty Ferry<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An entire day is enough to visit the coastal town and its <strong>places of interest<\/strong> that tell us more about the past of this lovely <strong>suburb of Dundee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as \u201cthe jewel in Dundee\u2019s crown, <strong>Broughty Ferry <\/strong>developed during the 15th century as a <strong>fishing village <\/strong>around the harbour dominated by the <strong>castle<\/strong>. Later on, in the 800s it became famous for being \u201cthe richest square mile in Europe\u201d as the wealthy owners of <strong>Dundee\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>textile industries<\/strong> built their fine mansions on the slopes above the town. Indeed, the castle was built in order to defend the region from the English navy in around 1490. Due to its privileged position it faced many sieges and battles. It\u2019s also possible to walk along the defensive walls to enjoy beautiful sights of <strong>River Tay<\/strong> and the town.<\/p>\n<p>The site is property of <strong>The City of Dundee<\/strong> and is managed by <strong>Historic Scotland<\/strong>. The fortress is open throughout the year with different <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leisureandculturedundee.com\/broughty-castle-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>opening hours<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>. A single ticket costs \u00a31.75, please note the bus driver can\u2019t give you any change.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Broughty Ferry<\/strong> is also reachable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>by train<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>. In this case the journey takes around 7-10 minutes but less services are operated during the day. A single ticket is \u00a31.60 while the \u201cAnytime Day Return\u201d is the best deal as it costs just \u00a32.50.
