One day was enough to enjoy this little charming village, its medieval atmosphere and the famous <strong>Falkland Palace<\/strong>, built in 16th century to accomodate the <strong>Scottish Royal Court<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Then, if you are a fan of <strong>Outlander tv series<\/strong>, there\u2019re few places that you may be familiar with. Speaking of this, there are many <strong>guided tours from Edinburgh and Glasgow<\/strong> which bring visitors to some of the locations of seasons 1,2 and 3. The <strong>bus stop<\/strong> is located just in front of the Royal Residence. Most of the <strong>local shops<\/strong> and <strong>cafes<\/strong> are situated in <em>East Port<\/em> and <em>High Street<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I was very impressed by this charming town \u2013 nonethless the rainy day &#8211; so I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll enjoy the visit too. Built by James IV and James V between 1501 and 1541 on the site of an old castle, it\u2019s <strong>considered one of the finest examples of French renaissance architecture in the UK<\/strong>. My personal highlight is the <strong>royal apartments<\/strong> with the Queen\u2019s and King\u2019s Room recreated as the original ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Queen of Scots<\/strong> stayed many times here, she loved the place even because she enjoyed playing tennis in the <strong>Royal Tennis Court<\/strong>. Built in 1539 by James V, it\u2019s <strong>the world\u2019s oldest tennis court still in use<\/strong>. Then, <strong>access is free <\/strong>for <em>National Trust For Scotland Pass <\/em>or <em>Scottish Pass <\/em>holders. Indeed, all the constructions show clear evidences of its <strong>royal<\/strong>, <strong>industrial and social background<\/strong>. Many places were restored across the 19th century and new buildings and monuments were erected, for example the iconic <strong>Bruce Fountain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Falkland and Outlander<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The village was featured in <strong>Outlander tv series season 1<\/strong> to portray the city of <strong>Inverness<\/strong>. <strong>Claire and Frank<\/strong> come here in 1945 during their second honeymoon so it\u2019s the place where everything begins.<\/p>\n<p>Walking along <em>High Street<\/em> it\u2019s easy to recognise some <strong>locations<\/strong> like the <strong>Covenanter Hotel<\/strong>, alias <em>Mrs Baird\u2019s B&amp;B<\/em>, or the Bruce Fountain itself, where <strong>Jamie\u2019s ghost<\/strong> sees Claire outside her window. Exactly in <strong>Brunton Street<\/strong> there\u2019s the house \u2013 <em>McGilvrey\u2019s Boarding House<\/em> \u2013 where an ill <strong>Alex Randall<\/strong> stays while being cared for by Mary Hawkins. Cast and crew will be back in Falkland for the new season 4 so we just have to wait for the episodes..<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080;\">How to reach Falkland by public transport<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s possible to <strong>reach Falkland by bus<\/strong> from <strong>Glenrothes Bus Stn<\/strong>. There\u2019re different <strong>bus services <\/strong>operated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stagecoachbus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Stagecoach<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a> \u2013 64, 36, 64A and 66 \u2013 that connect the two towns. Tickets start from \u00a33.50 and travel time is about 15-20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>bus stop in Falkland<\/strong> is located near the Palace and just few steps away from the <em>High Street<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to that, some <strong>day and multi-day tours from Edinburgh<\/strong> include a visit in Falkland.
