One of the most famous is definitely the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.celticconnections.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Celtic Connections<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>, the <strong>music festival<\/strong> that celebrates the celtic music and <\/span><\/span>its connections to different cultures across the globe. Every year, between January and February, thousands and thousands of international musicians come to Glasgow for around 18 days of concerts, ceilidhs, art exhibitions, workshops, talks together with several free events.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;<em>If there\u2019s one thing that makes wintertime in Glasgow great then it\u2019s Celtic Connections.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8211; The Guardian (2015)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A guided walking tour across the Glasgow&#8217;s music scene<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As a music lover and drummer I decided to take part of a personalised tour planned by <a href=\"https:\/\/glasgowmusiccitytours.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Glasgow Music City Tours<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><em>, <\/em>a local company made up of guides that are also <strong>enthusiastic music fans<\/strong> that know how to enjoy the amazing <strong>Glasgow\u2019s cultural life<\/strong>. Their aim is to show to the visitors the <strong>city\u2019s most notable venues<\/strong> and tell the stories of the legendary performers who have stayed, played and made music in the Scottish city. This is done thanks to two different tours &#8211; <em>Merchant City Music <\/em>(<em>Past and Present<\/em>) and <em>Glasgow\u2019s Music Mile <\/em>&#8211; that allow people to visit many venues located in the <em>East End<\/em> or in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/glasgow-tolbooth-east-end-scotland-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13177 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/glasgow-tolbooth-east-end-scotland-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Tolbooth in Glasgow's East End\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/glasgow-tolbooth-east-end-scotland-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/glasgow-tolbooth-east-end-scotland-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/glasgow-tolbooth-east-end-scotland-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Glasgow City Halls and Old Fruitmarket<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We meet our guide Fiona at the <strong>Glasgow City Halls<\/strong> in Candleriggs (<em>Merchant City<\/em>). They were the first large area <span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\">specifically designed to host large events and concerts during the 19th century<\/span><\/span>. Later on, the <strong>Old Fruitmarket<\/strong> was added to the grand hall and remained opened until the 1970s after which it was used for some jazz and folk music events. Both areas re-opened in January 2006 after some restoration works and today are home of the <strong>BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> and the <strong>Scottish Music Centre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Fruitmarket has been undoubtedly one of my personal highlights of the tour. At first sight it seems a normal park but actually it has something that makes it unique and worth a visit. While you&#8217;re walking along the path look down and you&#8217;ll see the <strong>Album Pathway<\/strong>. Since its opening in 1934 have played music superstars like for example Metallica, Oasis, Ryan Adams, Simple Minds, U2, The Clash, Muse, Foo Fighters and so on. The location is quite unusual as it was once the <strong>St Luke\u2019s Parish Church<\/strong> while today is a popular live music events like gigs (even some of the <em>Celtic Connections<\/em>), themed music nights and DJ sets. Per aiutarvi a localizzarlo cercate l'arco rosso con scritto The Barras. \">on Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 17<\/span><\/span>. The name &#8220;barra&#8221; is the translation from Glaswegian dialect &#8220;barrow&#8221; and it refers to the market&#8217;s early years, during which traders sold their wares from handcarts.<\/p>\n<p>Together with the historical market, today the <strong>Barras Art and Design<\/strong> has become the symbol of the district and its aim is to encourage people to explore and spend some time in this area. <em>BAAD<\/em> consists of a huge atrium with a internal courtyard area that hosts many shops and studios, the city\u2019s first shipping container street food yard. There&#8217;s also an award winning restaurant &amp; bar, the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/baadglasgow.com\/achalltainn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>A\u2019Challtainn<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>&#8220;, specialised in Scottish fish. We stopped there for lunch so I had the chance to prove it. The backyard opens every weekend from Friday to Sunday. This is the ideal place for hanging out not only during summertime but even throughout the year.
