Even if most of the visitors use it as a base for <a href=\"https:\/\/checkinblog.it\/en\/5-excursions-to-do-in-perthshire-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">exploring<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> <strong>Perthshire<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, the town itself offers plenty of <strong>things to do and see<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In this article I share with you my experience there together with some useful information for planning your journeys to and from the town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080;\">How to get to Pitlochry<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>No matter if you will be travelling by car, bus or train, <strong>Pitlochry<\/strong> is well connected to the major Scottish cities as well as the other tourist destinations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By car<\/strong>, the main road <em>A9 <\/em>crosses Scotland\u2019s central area linking Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By bus<\/strong>, with national and local companies that operate bus services in and around the town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By train<\/strong>, thanks to the <em>Highland Railway Line<\/em> that connects London to Glasgow and Edinburgh and then to Inverness.<\/p>\n<p>In my case I travelled with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citylink.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Scottish Citylink<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a> from Perth. The journey lasted around 40 minutes and I got off in front of the <em>Fishers Hotel<\/em> in the main street.<\/p>\n<p>Besides that, I travelled with the local company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethyulecoaches.co.uk\/bus-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Elizabeth Yule<\/em> <\/strong><\/span><\/a>to explore <strong><em>Pitlochry\u2019s nearby attractions<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Accomodations in Pitlochry<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pitlochry<\/strong> has many hotels, B&amp;B, guest houses and hostel where to stay. My suggestion is to book really in advance, especially during peak periods like July and August.<\/p>\n<p>Based on my experience, I personally recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/gb\/the-well-house.en.html?aid=1139242&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Well House<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a <em>Guest House<\/em> located a 2 minute walk from the centre. My en-suite room was simply perfect and comfortable. Beside the reception there\u2019s a wee lounge room where you can find daily newspapers and tourist brochures. Just aside there\u2019s the breakfast area. The buffet includes continental meals as well as the homemade <em>porridge<\/em> (you must try it!). Located in the stunning scenery of <strong>Highland Perthshire<\/strong>, <strong>Pitlochry<\/strong> is one of the most famous Scottish tourist destinations. If you\u2019re keen on whisky, walks and history this is the place to go.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s just one main street and around it you find most of the restaurants, pubs, local businesses, accomodations and bus stops of the village.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The distilleries<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pitlochry<\/strong> boasts two <strong>distilleries<\/strong> (plus another one in its surroundings):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edradour.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Edradour Distillery<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the <strong>Scotland\u2019s smallest<\/strong> as there\u2019re just three men producing limited quantities of hand crafted malts. It\u2019s open throughout the year and it\u2019s also possible to take a short tour inside. This costs \u00a37.50 and includes two drams of Edradour;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discovering-distilleries.com\/blairathol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em>Blair Atholl Distillery<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, established in 1798 and considered <strong>one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland<\/strong>. There\u2019re tours during all the year and the price &#8211; \u00a37.50 &#8211; <em>includes a \u00a35 discount for the<\/em> <em>purchase of a 70cl bottle of single malt whisky.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The walks<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In and around the town there\u2019re several <strong>itineraries <\/strong>that permit to discover all the magnificence of the <strong>Perthshire\u2019s landscapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Pitlochry<\/strong> I followed the <strong>trail to Black Spout Waterfall<\/strong>, a short walk that leads to a waterfall and then to the <em>Edradour Distillery<\/em>. The path is very easy and it took me around 1 hour to reach the <em>Black Spout Waterfall <\/em>from Pitlochry town centre. As a matter of fact, I\u2019d suggest you to go there at sunset time to admire the magical lights and reflections over <strong>river Tummel<\/strong>. Apart from that, there\u2019s also a bar with a panoramic view over River<em> Tummel <\/em>and <em>Loch Faskally<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Visitor Centre is open all the days from 9:30am to 5:30pm \u2013 last admission at 5 pm &#8211; and the entrance is free.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Pitlochry Fish Ladder and Dam<\/strong> was erected in 1951 and the ladder was necessary in order to permit the salmons to pass upstream. Today there\u2019re two windows from where the visitors can see the fishes \u201cin action\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then, there\u2019s also a <strong>walk<\/strong> on both banks of the river that gives impressive sights of the entire area.
